Twitter blocks third-party apps, sites that don’t make money

Twitter is continuous with its war against third-party applications. The latest victims are those sites that run on the micro blogging system but don’t make money. Only applications and web sites that are paying to use Twitter for its data will be have a sign in button.

The point was first noted by author Tom Scott of  the Australian parody blog site, Klouchebag in this post.  (Klouchebag is the parody opposite of Klout. You can enter someone’s Twitter handle to determine how much of a Twitter abuser they are) Tom Scott wrote a strongly-worded post where he highlighted how Twitter was killing off third-party users.

Twitter will go on just fine without Klouchebag. They will go on just fine without third-party applications when, sooner or later, they start to turn off access to them. The majority of Twitter’s users, and particularly the ones that the company’s modern incarnation cares about, will be happy with the official clients and web site. They’ll be happy with the temporary add. Hell, many of them are happy following accounts that do nothing but spout vague platitudes and occasional provided tweets.
